Police said a lot has to go right for the plan to work and they will likely not be able to recover every body. Eight people out of the 47 affected have been confirmed dead, with another eight presumed dead on White Island, also known by its Maori name, Whakaari.
Deputy Commissioner Mike Clement said on Thursday that the plan was for trained New Zealand Defence Forces to collect the bodies of the victims still on the island. Relatives of the victims still on the island have expressed their anger over the delayed recovery of the bodies.
Why didn’t scumo go? I would have loved to have seen him there when the volcano erupted again.
