Nurses warn of more strikes as union and government clash over staff ratios | marywardy lucy_carroll

NSW hospitals will likely face months of disruption with nurses warning they will “strike again and again” unless the state government agrees to meet demands over pay and staffing levels.

A senior government source said it was highly unlikely the government would agree to the proposed nurse-to-patient ratios, which NSW Health argues does not provide the same flexibility as the existing staffing model. However, it would consider boosting the number of nurses it employs particularly in emergency and ICU.The union is seeking a 4.

Union representatives last met with Premier Dominic Perrottet and Health Minister Brad Hazzard on February 21,In 2019, the state government committed to hiring 5000 nurses and midwives, 1060 medical staff, 880 allied health and 1360 hospital support staff over the following four years. The extra workforce will cost $2.8 billion over the period.

Nurses union warns it will strike ‘again and again’ for staff ratiosAbout 5000 nurses and midwives were at the rally outside state parliament on Thursday morning, as they strike for 24 hours. marywardy I don't blame them, treated like slaves for the last couple of years by an arrogant uncaring state and federal government. marywardy If you add public holiday penalties to their pay, they do better than most. Might need more of them but not at an increased cost.
