AWU National Secretary Daniel Walton says he remains a strong advocate for nuclear energy in Australia despite the race for technology change currently leading heavily toward hydrogen renewables.

“I have been a very big supporter of the nuclear industry and remain so – and nuclear energy – I think it’s got enormous opportunities to provide baseload power.

“But the race for technology change at the moment is leading heavily toward hydrogen renewables and I think it’s getting harder for the industry to find a solution to operate here in Australia as it goes forward. “That being said, and certainly still remain very much committed to it, but I think the headwinds are working against it right now.”

aclennell Considering that every solar panel purchased is extra $$$ in 🇨🇳's pocket. Makes sense to invest in our own Nuclear industry and stand on our own 2 feet.

Most nuclear plants were built in 70 & 80's. They had a planned 40 year life and are now being shut down or are breaking down. Renewables are now about 10 times cheaper than new nuclear. The nuclear age us almost over. Hinkley Point C one of the last.

Maybe think about placing on along the Murray. Maybe it wouldn't be wise.

💕

Where does this come from? There is no rush for hydrogen. Electric is already here and a lot cheaper than hydrogen or nuclear. Just get more solar and wind and stop trying to keep the fossil fuel companies polluting the air

Renewable energy is going to cause the biggest energy crisis this country has ever seen

Errr, no but Nuclear Fusion has a future. Sad fact, Aussies have no idea what Nuclear Fusion is

Time to generate nuclear power

‘Doesn’t have much credibility’: AWU boss slams Littleproud over regional visa callsAWU National Secretary Daniel Walton says he's looking forward to Nationals Leader David Littleproud 'riding in on his one trick pony' to Labor's Jobs and Skills Summit with more calls for 'easily exploitable' regional visas. Mr Littleproud accepted an invitation from Treasurer Jim Chalmers to attend the industrial relations summit in September and vowed to put forward a raft of proposals. These include wanting to have changes made to certain welfare payments and the introduction of a regional visa to attract more migrants to regional Australia. Mr Walton accused Mr Littleproud of putting forward 'short term, easily exploitable visas' to solve the 'long term systemic problems' in the agricultural industry. 'This is the same guy who proposed an agriculture visa which was going to decimate our friends in the Pacific without any consultation to them,' Mr Walton told Sky News Australia. 'This guy doesn't have much credibility and once again is banging the same drum of failed policies from the previous government.' Seems labor has a one trick pony too - summits. Gee what a collaborative approach by the AWU secretary. sheer arrogance

Two ‘big problems’ facing labour marketAWU National Secretary Daniel Walton says there are currently two big problems facing the economy's labour market. 'Number one: With the borders shut we've had net negative migration over the last couple of years and there is some key positions across the economy where we're struggling to identify people to fill those roles,' he told Sky News Australia. 'What we also know is business has become completely addicted and reliant upon short and temporary visa workers coming over to plug temporary gaps. 'They've dropped the ball in terms of training and developing Australians or retraining already employed Australians to fill the roles that we need into the future. 'For every worker that you bring into the country, business should have a requirement to either train an Australian for that role or to help contribute into a fund to develop Australians for future roles going forward.' Yes Labor and unions.

‘Angry Birds’ has nothing on ‘angry’ Joe Biden: PanahiAngry Birds – those irate wingless creatures hellbent on destruction – have nothing on an 'angry Joe Biden', Sky News host Rita Panahi says. 'Whether he's campaigning to be president or in the White House there's something a little unhinged about the big guy,' Ms Panahi said. Question please. How do I delete sky news from foxtel? Not one decent commentator. Meanwhile Trump is having a meltdown over the FBI retrieving all those secret documents. The real problem for the US is that the FBI was to late. According to this Putin already has his copies. You can almost taste that Walkley award with this story. Just journalistic gold Rita. Never change.
