The head of the team in charge of the Northern Territory's Howard Springs COVID quarantine facility says a high level of standard will keep Territorians safe amid a surge in cases at the facility.

The head of the specialist health team running the highly praised Howard Springs quarantine facility says "stops and checks" are in place to ensure the system is not overburdened, as the NT records a surge in coronavirus cases from repatriated flights from India.

But at a press conference in Darwin today, professor Notaras tried to quell any fears of strain, saying "everything is completely under control".PM flags flight reduction as India sets a global recordreduce the number of incoming flights Professor Len Notaras says the Howard Springs facility is the "perfect site" for quarantining returned travellers.

"We're bringing vulnerable Australians back home, people who have been out of this country for in some cases up to 18 months."The 10 positive cases include two females and four males who arrived on a repatriation flight from Chennai, India, on April 15, and two females who arrived on a repatriation flight from New Delhi on April 17.

At a press conference today, NT Health Minister Natasha Fyles confirmed two COVID-19 cases were being cared for at the Royal Darwin Hospital. She said the second incident involved a paramedic who was transporting an active case."We have had two breaches of PPE which have been identified and protocols have been put in place … and of course the situation has been clinically reviewed," she said.

'everything is completely under control' Sorry pal, we don't believe government statements anymore.

Howard Springs is the gold standard Q facility . The minnow territory outperform every state and territory in Q facility management. Kudos NT.

Zero community transmission. ABC trying to stir the pot again.

Example about why this needs to be remote from cities and it is a Federal Government Responsibility.

Seems to me the issue here is as bad as current rates are the arrangement is that the facility is due to increase is capacity from 850 to 2000 per fortnight soon and going from federally managed to territory control. At current or increased infection rates we'll be overwhelmed.

they are all from India and yesterday 13 cases were all from India too. why don't Scomo suspend the flights from India? until all front workers get vaccinated?

Why aren’t these people vaccinated before they come here?

Howard Springs is full of fifo rig workers coming from Timor-Leste. The country is having up to 100 positive cases a day.

It's shocking to think a year in to this crisis & we still have not constructed a single purpose built quarantine facility.. Time to build many, in all our city located air force bases. Let take quarantine as seriously as it deserves. We're going to need it for long time yet!
