The Northern Territory government has denied claims it forgot to order more doses of the COVID-19 vaccine as it prepares to administer the jab to remote Indigenous communities from next week.

As many NT frontline staff are receiving their second dose of the vaccine, the government is turning its focus to phase 1b of the rollout – which will see Indigenous health organisations begin to inoculate Indigenous Australians with the AstraZeneca jab.

A shipment of more than 1,400 doses failed to arrive in the Top End on March 12 as planned, with the federal government claiming the NT government never placed an order or submitted a delivery address. NT Health Minister Natasha Fyles denied the assertion, however, saying “it wasn’t a matter of forgetting to order a vaccine or an administrative error”.
