The NRL has handed NSW Rugby League a formal warning over the handling of Boyd Cordner’s head knock in Origin I 👇

The warning was issued for “failing to follow the game’s policy for managing potential head injuries”.

The NRL determined Cordner should not have been allowed to return to the field after sustaining a head knock in the 18Under the NRL’s Operations Manual, players who exhibit symptoms such as motor incoordination must be classified as a Category One injury and not be permitted to return to the field, regardless of the outcome of the SCAT Assessment.

The NRL acknowledged the professionalism of all medical staff involved in the game, and took into account the subjective nature in classifying some symptoms before making a finding. NRL Chief Executive Andrew Abdo said: “In our view Boyd should not have been allowed to return to the field. Our Chief Medical Officer spoke directly with both NSW and Queensland medical staff prior to Wednesday night’s game and reminded them of our high expectations in this area.”

OK what about the obvious headknocks your management have received allowing Sutton to still ref at any level in the NRL? The guy isn't fit to ref an under 7's game let alone the top level.

Since when did the nrl become doctors? If the medically trained doctor passed him, then who are you guys to question it? What a laugh...

With the amount of concussions hes had, he should never have came back on in SOR 1, but Fittler of course defended it

He’ll probably sue nrl in later years. Should’ve done something sooner.

Fair enough...any follow up on the illegal tackle that concussed Munster and took him out of the game (and likely Origin III)?

Why are there not independent persons assessing the players. Seems a bit ridiculous to have team staff doing that role.

I honestly thought it was a COI

I thought the people that determine if a player is okay or not isn’t part of the team and is sanctioned by the NRL instead?

Force him to retire
