A second school in Victoria has been forced to shut its doors after a staff member of the St Kilda East college tested positive for COVID-19.

New South Wales health authorities have confirmed six more cases of coronavirus in New South Wales, bringing the state's total to 61.

A woman and man, both in their 50s, who had recently arrived in Sydney from the United States were also confirmed to have contracted the virus, NSW Health said in a statement late on Tuesday. The pair were not known to each other. Southern Cross University also announced it would be shutting its Gold Coast and Lismore campuses on Wednesday morning after a staff member tested positive.
