New South Wales has reported 12 COVID-19 related deaths while Victoria has recorded two deaths overnight. 9News

This is a slight drop in case numbers from yesterday's 20,050 infections.There were 1060 people in hospital yesterday and 32 ICU admissions.There were also two deaths.There are 210 people in hospital with the virus and 23 people in ICU.Concerns over another wave of COVID-19 in coming months

Authorities are warning of yet another wave of COVID-19 cases in the autumn months due to the emergence of the BA.2 Omicron variant. Infectious disease modeller Professor Nick Golding said it's hoped the next wave will be "half" the size of previous waves."We think the infections from BA.1 Omicron protect you against BA.2."Hopefully smaller, maybe half as small."Infectious disease modeller Professor Nick Golding says another wave of Omicron is imminent.

It comes as health workers are hitting the streets in Perth today to conduct COVID-19 testing to understand the transmission of the virus in the community."We know there are asymptomatic cases."Professor Golding called the testing a "research project" to understand community transmission and predict the next wave of the virus.
