NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian hopes to make an announcement about the easing of COVID restrictions by the end of the week and flags a potential relaxation of rules for hospitality venues and private gatherings.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian says her crisis cabinet will today discuss easing COVID restrictions with an announcement expected later this week.However she hinted they may become "recommended" in other settingsMs Berejiklian said people could look forward to soon welcoming more guests into their home and more certainty within the hospitality sector.

At that time, up to 50 people could gather at a private residence if they were outdoors and 30 were allowed indoors. "There could be some settings where we do think it should be an ongoing way of doing things, a way of living," she said.Masks are most likely to stay mandatory on public transport as the NSW Government tries to encourage people back into workplaces.

Virus fragments are continuously being detected at wastewater treatment plants across Sydney, including at the Liverpool plant in the last 24 hours.
