NSW Premier Gladys Berejikilian has “strongly urged” the public to wear masks when they are in enclosed spaces like shops and public transport, but stopped short at making face coverings compulsory. Australia’s largest state confirmed 12 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in the past 24-hours, one of which was found in hotel quarantine. NSW now reported 3595 confirmed COVID-19 infections.

“I want to stress that it's not compulsory, but it is a strong recommendation from NSW Health given where we are in the pandemic... this strong recommendation we're asking to occur from tomorrow,” Ms Berejikilian said. “We have been talking about masks for several weeks but obviously the consistent situation in Victoria gives us cause for alarm in terms of the potential for further seating in NSW and it is but about risk mitigation strategy.
