Premier GladysB is standing firm on the state’s advisory face mask stance amid calls from the Opposition to mandate mask-wearing on public transport.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian is standing firm on the state’s advisory face mask stance amid calls from the Opposition to mandate mask-wearing on public transport. Data from Service NSW yesterday indicated 65 per cent of travellers were already wearing masks across Sydney’s public transport network, however, Transport NSW reported only about 30 per cent of users were wearing masks.

The report comes after NSW Health revealed a commuter may have contracted the coronavirus from another passenger during a bus ride on August 20. The Premier said she did not want to mandate masks due to the complexity of the laws and was concerned it would encourage people to become complacent in other areas. NSW Opposition Leader Jodi McKay urged the government to change the health advice tweeting, “enough is enough. It’s time to mandate face masks on public transport”.
