The NSW Premier vows go it alone on the $2 billion project to raise the Warragamba Dam wall if the federal government doesn't split the cost despite previously saying the state is unable to fund the project.

abc.net.au/news/nsw-premier-promises-to-build-2-billion-dam-wall/101546362The NSW Premier has vowed to go it alone on the $2 billion project to raise the Warragamba Dam wall even if the federal government doesn't split the cost.Mr Perrottet said environment impact statements for the government were still being worked on.

Raising the wall has been considered by many successive governments in NSW but the Premier maintains the recent flood inquiry gave it a renewed sense of urgency. "Where there is an important opportunity to protect the lives of people across our state I would expect a 50-50 funding arrangement," he said. The plan to raise the dam wall has been criticised by environmental groups — who argue the Blue Mountains could lose its world heritage listing — and some First Nations people, who warn culturally significant sites would be destroyed.

He insisted things were progressing as quickly as possible but could not commit to reports being finalised before the March 2023 election.

Parrothead has gone rogue - off with his head !!

The only way raising the dam works is if you leave the capacity the same. It will be the only dam with a toll on it.

Raising the height of the dam means the dam holds more water that you have to release when you need to release it. Is this like replacing the icecream container catching the drips from the roof leak with a bucket so you don't have to change it as often? auspol

Finally, a forward thinking Premier. Nice work Dom.

DESPERATION needs thinking about! As always he has no idea what he is doing!

We have a desalination plant that this government privatised. Now it costs us a bomb to use it. Raising the dam wall will destroy culturally significant places and animal habitats. He knows this and is deliberately putting his political donors first. Again. This is his priority.

Or Electoral mandate. How does that work

he is only promising this to buy votes in the areas that were flooded , he has zero intention of following through unless his developer mates get hold of more land.

his only in it to leave a legacy for himself as we won't win next years election

there are 200k residents subject to flooding so their property need to be protected We have to build a diversion channel so that water has a dual pathways NOT constricted at Windsor

Cool, so we can then fill the flood plain up with even more houses, give them false hope and watch them flood?

there is a choke point at lowe Portland that is 7+ metres higher than the rest of the floodplain. I'm no civil engineer but removing that would significantly lower the flood levels

BULLSHIT! Tim Flannery ABC climate expert already told us we won’t be able to fill what we have anyway! 😡

This is bloody lunacy. It doesn't matter how high the dam is; once its full, its bloody full!!!

This is why Dom needs to go! As much as raising the wall sounds good, everything else needs to be considered as well. Dom seems happy to work with Albanese one day fight him the next! If only the LNP NSW govt had actually done stuff while LNP fed were in govt? Hmmm

Is that the dam that will wipe out a culturally important sacred indigenous site?

You do know this will not fix the problem ?

NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet thanks flood volunteers and businessesNew South Wales Premier Dominic Perrottet has thanked volunteers working to assist with the floods and businesses for their support. “In addition to that, it's not just our SES volunteers who we’re here with today to thank for the work that they do but also all our volunteers right across New South Wales and whether that’s surf lifesaving, fire service, fire and rescue,” Mr Perrottet said. “Right across the board we have men and women putting their lives on the line day in and day out to keep us safe, so I want to thank them. “In addition to that, I want to do a shoutout today to our businesses across New South Wales. Our businesses provide leave for our volunteers to go out and look after our communities and it's often the case that businesses provide that leave in circumstances where there are floods in Sydney and it's more noticeable right here. “But there are very difficult situations that communities across New South Wales are facing, and I just want to thank those businesses who provide that support to our volunteers who do what they love doing, but most importantly allowing them to go out and protect our communities right across New South Wales.” Thank you Albo.
