The NSW Housing Minister says she’s told the federal government they need to spend twice as much on fixing the housing crisis
Rose Jackson, the NSW Minister for Housing and Homelessness, has also told Labor colleagues in Canberra that tax concessions for property investors should be reviewed. Ms Jackson says states must also dig deeper, saying "I'm not trying to shirk responsibility". But she's adamant Canberra must take the lead.
State and federal politicians have clashed on the ABC's Q+A over how to fix the country's housing crisisWhile there's broad agreement in the sector that boosting housing supply is the best way to cool the market and improve affordability, the NSW housing minister says governments need to look broader.
"What's really unfair is the federal government hands out billions of dollars in tax handouts to property investors who own multiple homes," Greens MP and housing spokesperson Max Chandler-Mather told Q+A. Andrew Bragg, the Shadow Assistant Minister for Home Ownership, said not enough new migrants are filling workforce shortfalls in construction.
