Exclusive: NSW Labor moves to block Barilaro appointment to New York role

NSW Labor will move to block former deputy premier John Barilaro taking up a plum New York trade posting until a parliamentary inquiry into his appointment is completed.

A 2021 selection panel report for the New York posting, obtained under parliamentary order, reveals the names and interview scores of four candidates who interviewed for the role in July last year. Hendy, who was an assistant minister for productivity and finance in the Turnbull government, is the chief executive for Independent Higher Education Australia. In question time on Tuesday, Premier Dominic Perrottet said Barilaro’s selection for the role was a public service decision.

“It is not a statutory appointment. It is a public service appointment. That decision was made by the public service.”

Labor mocks NSW Premier for back-flipping on Indigenous flag on bridgeLabor has called for an apology from Dominic Perrottet after an old article he wrote argued that placing the Indigenous flag on the Harbour Bridge would be a 'lavish exercise in trendy virtue signalling' - a decision he has now embraced as Premier. How many yrs has labor had to put that flag up there and didn't , who are they to throw stones at anyone And it was in News Corp/Daily Telegraph not that long ago. Load of rubbish! I don't support two flags. I am an Australian , only follow the Australian flag and proud of it. Two flags is just an wonk idea and a stupid one at that!

‘Perilous state’: Dozens of areas across NSW at risk of critical GP shortagesThe exodus of hundreds of doctors from the workforce means dozens of towns across the state are at risk of not having a single GP available in coming years. lucy_carroll carriefellner Thank you SMH, I reckon This is so easy to fix but these local councils are lazy they don’t want to bring people but take the tax n not even fix roads or bushfires or at least allowing residential area to clear trees so people would t move due to cold. stemplemanmp PaulTooleMP lucy_carroll carriefellner The elephant in the room is the feminisation of the GP workforce. Their professional partners often can’t get work in rural areas, and they often want/ need part time work.
