A loss-making ferry service used by private school students has been saved after a backflip from the NSW government | smh_andrew

A loss-making ferry service used by private school students has been saved after a backflip from the NSW government., after Captain Cook Cruises announced last month that the Lane Cove ferry service would cease on December 18.

More than two-thirds of ferry users are students of St Ignatius’ College, with about 50 to 60 adult passengers, a Transport for NSW spokeswoman said. The cost of maintaining the ferry service for student travel was up to $5000 per student per year compared with about $750 for the proposed bus routes. “The harbour is definitely under-utilised as a public transport option,” he said. “The government should open up Circular Quay and the wharves to private operators so we can get more people onto the harbour.”
