The NRL has reportedly been forced into an embarrassing backflip on its anthem ban after Prime Minister Scott Morrison reached out.

On a day of high drama, NRL chief executive Andrew Abdo confirmed a decision from the Australian Rugby League Commission to scrap the anthem — only for reports to emerge hours later that the decision had been reversed.first revealed Morrison reached out to ARLC chairman Peter V’landys on Thursday after it was revealed that the anthem would no longer feature in any future State of Origin events.

The Daily Telegraph’s Phil Rothfield reported Morrison’s message to V’landys resulted in an immediate backflip from the NRL. “The original decision not to play the anthem at Origin was about the rivalry and tribalism associated with the Origin Series. The original decision to scrap the anthem would have made the 2020 Origin series opener the first time in 40 years that the anthem would not have been sung before a State of Origin game. Both teams stand during the national anthem before game one of the 2019 State of Origin series. The NRL earlier announced the anthem would only be used for the Grand Final, Anzac Day and all Kangaroos and Jillaroos test matches.

Well done PM

NRL move was dumb... But what a resourceful scoundrel is our PM... His ability to stick his nose into a stupid move by the NRL so quickly only proves he picks & chooses his battles - very badly Aged care languishes, sports rorts goes un-punished, promised monies never appear

Why on earth listen to a racist, sexist, god bothering LiarFromTheShire

If these guys don’t want to be part of Australia that is their choice. Drop them from state and all representative sides. If being indigenous is more and important than being Australian that’s fine but you can’t pick and choose.

If some do not want to respect Australia, then exclude them from the team, we should definitely not force them to play - simple !

Our rampant nationalism is an embarrassment to our country. Drunks on Australia day and Anzac day are supposed to honor our country? What a joke. We are becoming just like the USA. The anthem is a joke and should be replaced.

And no game two for any player who refuses to sing or takes a knee...

thanks PM

I will be standing up and singing Advance Australia Fair as loud as I can prior to the game. I am a proud Australian. NationalAnthem AdvanceAustraliaFair CancelCulture
