More than 100 fires continue to ravage parts of Queensland and New South Wales, in the worst starts to the bushfire season in history. 9News

Firefighters who have spent decades fending off the flames have told the independent MP that the Peregian fire has been hard to pick, with winds slowing to a lull before whipping up and changing direction.Three teenagers have been questioned by police after allegedly admitting online to starting the blaze.Dark smoke billows from a bushfire near Peregian beach on the Sunshine Coast.

Volunteers have cooked breakfast, lunch and dinner for those who have been displaced, community clubs have opened their doors and the Cooroy Library has been transformed into a refuge. Watch-and-Act alerts last night implemented for fires at Bees Nest near Armidale and Drake near Tenterfield. The fire at Drake - burning over 39,706ha - has also breached its containment lines and spread towards properties in Sandy Hill and Sandy Creek.

At least nine homes and 34 outbuildings have been destroyed in bushfires across the state so far, with six homes damaged.Meanwhile, firefighters have held off a bushfire on the NSW north coast where locals have spent the day feeling "helpless" to protect their homes. Residents in the coastal villages of Angourie, Wooloweyah and Yamba were earlier warned to monitor the situation closely after the blaze breached containment lines overnight.Danielle, who runs the resort with her husband and parents, said they had evacuated their guests within an hour at lunchtime on Monday.
