After accounting for age, sex, and underlying conditions, researchers found an inability to stand unsupported on one leg for 10 seconds was associated with an 84 per cent heightened risk of death from any cause within the next decade.
More than half aged 71–75 were unable to complete the test, meaning people in this age group were 11 times more likely to fail compared to those just 20 years younger.Unlike aerobic fitness and muscle strength and flexibility, balance tends to be reasonably well-preserved until the sixth decade of life.Despite this deterioration, balance assessment is not routinely included in health checks of middle-aged and older men and women.
I can imagine everyone testing that at home right now and predicting their own early death.
Your picture shows the incorrect positioning. This is how it should be done according to the study

The one in five being the over 80s, fall over hitting their head, kapoweee, dead! That’s another 5 minutes of my pre 80 getting me closer to falling off my one legged perch. Jeez. Isn’t there a bloody shipwreck or something to report on.
Footballers fail this every weekend!
I feel like there should be more important things they should be studying that actually helps society besides how do you do a study like this? Did they get a bunch of people to stand on one leg and wait for them to die?
Myself and many family members stand on one foot often. We’re like a bunch of flamingo’s. Our foot sits on the inner side of the standing legs thigh. We are all pretty healthy & smart enough to refuse to take the Covid vaccine; so that’s probably why we will longer than ya’ll
