Sydney’s Northern Beaches residents will be placed in lockdown from 5pm today and will only be allowed to leave their homes for essential services and work as 23 new cases of COVID-19 were detected in the last 24 hours. The tough restrictions will be in place until midnight Wednesday.

"Essentially, we will be going back to the restrictions that were in place back in March, just for the Northern Beaches, for the local government area of the Northern Beaches, but we want to stress it is okay to go out and exercise, it is okay to go essential shopping, do not panic buy," she said. "You can go shopping any time, it is okay to go out for work, or compassionate grounds including emergency medical treatment or to visit an isolated relative, etc.
