If Kim Jong Un is incapacitated or dead, his sister Kim Yo Jong will likely take over as an interim leader until North Korea’s powerful politburo committee chooses its next ‘dear leader’ according to RMIT Professor Joseph Siracusa

North Korea's military 'will be key' to deciding Kim Jong Un's successor if dictator dies. There are conflicting reports whether North Korea dictator Kim Jong Un is dead or if he is recuperating in the resort town of Wonsa. Speculation about his health begun to emerge after the 36-year-old did not attend the anniversary of the birthday of North Korea's founding father and Mr Kim's grandfather, Kim Il Sung, on 15 April.

“He doesn’t run the whole show by the way, he has always been in cahoots with the military,” Professor Siracusa said. “So, if there is something going on it will be the military who will be manoeuvring. “Now he has a sister who carries the dynastic bloodline…she might be there to bridge over things, but I doubt in a reactionary society like North Korea, that doesn’t have any women in high places, that they would accept her as his successor.

Rumours of Kim Jong-un’s death were 'greatly exaggerated' | Sky News AustraliaSky News Foreign Coordinator Brent O’Halloran says rumours of Kim Jong-un’s death have been “greatly exaggerated”. \n\n“It’s difficult to speak with much certainty regarding anything to do with the North Korean leader or indeed anything going on within the hermit nation, Mr O’Halloran said. \n\nIt is understood the 36 year old leader of North Korea underwent heart surgery earlier this month with several US outlets quoting unnamed US intelligence sources reporting there were complications from that surgery. \n\nCNN said he was in “grave danger” while an NBC reporter tweeted he was “brain dead”, a tweet which was later deleted, Mr O’Halloran said. \n\nOfficials in South Korea, Japan and China later said there was no evidence to suggest Kim Jong-un is severely ill. \n\nMr O’Halloran said “this was not the first time US media outlets had released false information”. \n\nWhile it may have been an “incidental mistake,” Mr O’Halloran said “it was this sort of journalistic malpractice which bought us three years of uncorroborated Russia-Trump collusion conspiracy theories which were peddled by the majority of US mainstream media outlets”. \n wishful thinking Working in a chicken shop somewhere We shouldn’t hope for death for anyone
