South Korea detected the launch, which is the seventh this month, at 7:52 on Sunday just off North Korea’s east coast.
The east Asian state has defied the UN’s ban on an increasingly regular basis as leader Kim Jong-un vows to bolster his nation’s military capacity. “We are aware of the DPRK’s ballistic missile launch today and are consulting closely with the Republic of Korea and Japan, as well as other regional allies and partners,” it continued.
In 2018 leader Kim Jong-un announced his decision to pause tests on nuclear weapons and longer range intercontinental ballistic missiles.
