The much-loved actor interviews an array of prominent Australians and looks back at archival footage from the past 90 years in the six-part series The ABC of.

Take one of the country’s most beloved actors as interviewer, add an array of interesting, prominent Australians, and throw in extraordinary archive footage from the past 90 years.

Archival footage is interspersed through each episode, providing a gorgeous glimpse back as well as talking points. ABC archivist Michael Osmond unearthed reams of footage relevant to each of the interviewees. Buttrose’s composure and confidence as a young woman, asked if she wanted to create an empire like Murdoch’s, to which she retorts “of course not”, stating she would carve her own way as a woman, not mirror any male. Cawley’s clear love for Ash Barty, and her pride in her achievements, “She’s my hero and she’s like a little sister to me”.The Glasshouse

Critical news events throughout his prime ministership, such as the Port Arthur shootings and the Bali bombings, are revisited but the footage extends back to his work on the hustings for NSW MP Tom Hughes in 1966. Cleverly, tough questions are put to the former PM – did he regret his refusal to apologise to the stolen generation, or his objection to same-sex marriage? The answer is no on both counts.
