A backpackers hostel at Bondi Beach in Sydney's east has been placed in lockdown due to COVID-19.

It's not yet known how many people are staying at Noah's in Bondi or whether the outbreak involves the highly-transmissible Omicron strain of the virus."NSW Police has been requested to assist at a backpackers hostel at Bondi," a spokesperson said.The outbreak comes a day after it was revealed that 44 people who attended a pub trivia night in Sydney's inner west had tested positive for COVID-19.There was a previous COVID-19 outbreak at the hostel in April 2020.

NSW recorded 420 cases of COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8pm last night, the highest number of new cases since October.There are now a total of 42 confirmed cases of the Omicron strain in NSW.
