No protection for gay students at religious schools at least until 2023 | LisaVisentin

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has rebuffed pleas from moderate Liberals to prioritise protections for gay students at faith-based schools alongside the religious freedom bill, as senior Labor frontbencher Penny Wong called for the government to honour both promises at the same time.

“Gay students should not be expelled from religious schools and nor should gay teachers, who have been employed at those schools, be dismissed if they are gay.” “If Mr Morrison is genuine about wanting to protect people from discrimination he should act to deliver all of his overdue promises at the same time,” Senator Wong said.“It’s hard to reconcile Mr Morrison’s introduction of a bill his own backbenchers weren’t allowed to see, while he won’t even contemplate promised protections for LGBTQI+ children for another two years - five years after he first made the promise.

LisaVisentin He lied about it.

LisaVisentin Funny that religion needs protection when their schools are able to discriminate even with current sex discrimination laws

LisaVisentin Is this the job of our busybody government..........?

LisaVisentin If your religious teaching requires otherwise decent people to hate someone, because of a characteristic they were born with … then you need a new religion ! Quite strange from a Prime minister who attends cult gatherings founded by a Paedophile …

LisaVisentin I have seen enough of the Morrison Government and their failure to act to protect people’s rights . Religion and politics don’t mix auspoI Australia QandA

LisaVisentin Everyone must be protected from discrimination so if he dallies on this it will cost him hugely at election time. If there’s one thing Aussies hate is if some sections of our community are not given a fair go.

LisaVisentin Where is the protection of little boys from these sick FABLE bashing priests?

LisaVisentin That will do it for me. This government has crossed the line of human decency. EVERYONE! And I mean EVERYONE has a right to an education. Stopping a gay kid from that? Appalling. Australia whatever happened to you?

LisaVisentin Just don’t go to religious school!

LisaVisentin Another issue which may cause small L LNP supporters to abandon the government.

LisaVisentin Maybe don't attend a religious school if you're gay?

LisaVisentin What about the protection for gays from religious zealots like Morrison? Where's that law?

LisaVisentin Oh, so its equality if its one way, but not when it goes the other way is it? Typical

LisaVisentin I think LiarPantsOnFire has now lost all the gay votes! And more!

LisaVisentin Oh, LIAR, again, a terminal desease clearly in its final stage for Scott.

LisaVisentin Disgraceful.

LisaVisentin Are the LNP gone, stark raving mad?

LisaVisentin What larks, Pip

LisaVisentin No protections? 😆 This is Australia, not Afghanistan.

LisaVisentin Watch the publicly funded Private Schools harden their stance. This bill is a trojan horse for bias and exclusion.

Religious schools must have written policy to discriminate in hiring under proposed lawsSome say the bill will licence discrimination against gay teachers and students, but religious schools say it provides a clear framework allowing them to hire staff of their own faith. Labor backs religious freedom but warns on risk for gay teachers, studentsLabor will back new federal powers to enshrine religious freedom but has called for stronger protections for LGBTQI Australians. CroweDM Can anybody believe that it is 2021 and a mainstream political party would support a law which allows discrimination on the basis of sexuality? In 2021. CroweDM so if I was a Christian that thought being gay was wrong should I still be able to work for the LGBTQI community? If I was a climate sceptic can I get a job with the greens? If I was a member of the Liberal party can I get a job in the office of a labour candidate? CroweDM Always trying to walk both sides of the fence...

PM urged to protect gay students, teachers as religious discrimination bill introducedThe Prime Minister says the proposed law will protect religious Australians against 'cancel culture'. However, he is being urged to act immediately to ensure gay students and teachers cannot be fired or expelled. How about protecting the community from exploitation? What about a National Apology for all the Australian gay people experienced harassments and hatred speech from the past? Do you have the gut to do that as the Prime Minister of Australia? 👍💚🇦🇺💚🏳️‍🌈😃 So what takes precedence here? The anti-discriminatory bills that protect the LGBTQI+ community, or this new religious bill where it is in their belief to discriminate against the LGBTQI+ community?
