Western Australia records no new coronavirus cases in the community on the first day of a three-day lockdown, sparked by a case of community transmission.

The lockdown was announced on Friday after a 54-year-old Victorian man tested positive for the virus after completing 14 days of hotel quarantine in Perth.

WA Premier Mark McGowan confirmed two new COVID-19 cases had been recorded since yesterday's case numbers were provided. The other new case is a woman in her 50s who is a returned traveller from India and is in hotel quarantine.Mr McGowan said contact tracers had identified 337 contacts, including 71 close contacts of the two positive cases, but that number was expected to rise."They will remain in quarantine," Mr McGowan said.

The man visited numerous locations across Perth, including crowded restaurants in Northbridge, shopping centres and leisure centres.

I guarantee perth will get zero and melbs will end up with 47! 🤮

Might not enjoy the lockdown but that’s how we’re able to have nice things, and footy, and concerts, and meals out. Everyone should quit moaning and be grateful we don’t live somewhere like the UK.

Anything to divert away from the real issue, which is the ineptness of the WA Health Dept. We are still waiting for explanation why a 7 yo died in the ED at PCH and why ramping times are at unacceptable levels when we don’t have a health crisis.

Hotel quarantine worker in WA tests positive for COVID-19No, the irresponsible Federal Government will not set up safe quarantine sites (even though it's their responsibility) as long as they can continue blaming State's for lockdowns. Jesus, not again. Where are the properly fitted quarantine centres? WHERE IS THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT? Stay safe. This will help and hopefully the vaccine rollout steered by MarkMcGowanMP will help alleviate and reduce community transmissions.
