More and more students are deciding not to sit VCE exams for an ATAR score. And the reasons are varied

A record number of Victorian students are completing year 12 without an ATAR amid a rise in alternative ways to enter university and growing concerns about the stress of sitting exams.

Last year, 2072 students– or 4.1 per cent of the VCE population – finished school without receiving an ATAR. Instead of receiving a study score out of 50 for these subjects, Grace will be assessed on whether she has achieved a satisfactory outcome. It’s an approach that appeals to Year 11 student Maya Pradhan, who wants to study design at Swinburne University.

“They can focus on their learning and not on how to do well in end-of-year tests. It’s still the same amount of work, but there’s more learning and less stress.”

Further to this, did your journalist read this document? Did he ask the Minister how removing the requirement for Cert II OR ATAR will address the issues raised in this document? Did he just regurgitate a govt press release?

$6.36 per day: US Marines spending very little during Top End rotationsUnited States Marines training in the Northern Territory spend only about $1,164 each over six months, on rotations promoted by the Australian Government as a boost to the ailing local economy. You can feed yourself for $6 a day in America maybe the over pricing in Australia had left a sour taste If they have their own PX why would they spend anything? Were we expecting them to buy houses or cars or something? It’s a bit hard to put a big screen TV in your rucksack for the trip home. Most of the time they’re sequestered on a base not cruising a mall.
