Talkback radio host Alan Jones and venture capitalist Mark Carnegie have agreed to sell their shares in Macquarie Media to Nine Entertainment Co helping the broadcaster all but secure its $114 million takeover of the radio group.
After Nine reaches the 90 per cent threshhold the business is legally able to move into compulsory acquisition of the remaining shares. 2GB host and shareholder Alan Jones said in an emailed statement on Friday that he had "accepted the Channel Nine offer".The ASX update did not include Mr Carnegie's 3.6 per cent stake in the network as he accepted the deal on Friday morning. But it did include Mr Jones' 1.3 per cent.
Nine already owned 54.5 per cent of the radio network at the time of making a $114 million offer for the remaining shares, having bought the majority stake as part of its merger with Fairfax Media in late-2018.
