Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation has warned the COVID-19 pandemic will have a 'material adverse impact' on its business as subscriptions to pay TV company Foxtel and sports streaming service Kayo fall | zoesam93

Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation has warned the COVID-19 pandemic will have a "material adverse impact" on its business as subscriptions to pay TV company Foxtel and sports streaming service Kayo fall and real-estate listings and advertising sales collapse.in the UK had increased, but the cancellation of sports events would affect subscription and advertising revenue for Foxtel and Kayo.

“In addition, closures of pubs and clubs and lower occupancy at hotels throughout Australia are expected to adversely impact commercial subscription revenues,” News Corp said in a statement to the US Securities Exchange Commission. The company has urged shareholders not to rely on its current earnings forecasts.

"However, the COVID-19 pandemic ... could have a material adverse impact on the company's business, results of operations and financial condition, particularly over the near to medium term." Subscriber numbers at Foxtel softened to 2.952 million for the December quarter, down from 3.065 million at the end of September, according to figures from February. Meanwhile, streaming service Kayo's paying subscriber base was 350,000, a fall from 402,000 on November 5 last year. Although Kayo’s subscriber base fell for the December quarter, News Corp said that as of February 5 there were more than 370,000 paying subscribers.

The company has not released updated figures to reflect the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and said it was working "proactively" to offset predicted revenue losses with cost-saving initiatives.

zoesam93 Just laughed at a mate paying through the nose for hugely expensive Foxtel subscription, who’s just gone to download a new movie & threw the remote out the back door when seeing the greedy bastards want to charge $26.50 to rent it. Charge you twice for shit. Parasites.

gogetsmarthome zoesam93 how could they fall when so many are resorting to TV binging to cope being trapped inside.

zoesam93 Who cares

zoesam93 Could it be they charge way too much for their service compared to their competitors

zoesam93 Maybe this is a reflection of how people feel right now about Rupert Murdoch. Maybe we don’t like his control of the media and his ideologies. Pell, covid 19 and the bushfires have shown us in quick succession why the media should not be owned by one person.

zoesam93 Thrilling news. Bring it on.

zoesam93 Oh Honey it has nothing to do with COVID.. more to do with shite

zoesam93 I thought these people were all about the market driving everything.

zoesam93 And the bad news?

zoesam93 The silver lining in this terrible situation for cafes/pubs is that the general public won't have to read their free Murdochpoison.

zoesam93 That makes me sad. NOT! Murdoch must bear a lot of responsibility for Trump!!!

MayneReport zoesam93 To be fair Kayo and Foxtel rely on sport being active. As much as I think they are overpriced, Kayo’s technology is clunky and they possibly weren’t performing well prior, COVID is having a huge negative impact.

zoesam93 Probably shouldn't call yourself NEWS Corporation if you produce no news. Propaganda and lies are being seen for what it is. Can't fix it now because all they have is overpaid hacks and no journalists.

zoesam93 What a crying shame. Vultures.

zoesam93 Foxtel put the nail in its own coffin with Kayo. I know for one that we have only had it for years literally for sports. As a loyal customer my only reward was a yearly increase.

zoesam93 Netflix is the answer for entertainment. The pub if you want to watch sport, or just start to enjoy life without too much TV. Bye bye Foxtel
