Qantas and Jetstar workers are calling for better pay conditions after the Australian Licensed Aircraft Engineers Association held a postal ballot with 90 per cent of participants in favour of the strike.

The Australian Licensed Aircraft Engineers Association held a postal ballot asking members if they supported overtime bans and strikes.

Steve Purvinas, Federal Secretary, Australian Licensed Aircraft Engineers Association at Melbourne Airport. Mr Purvina also told The Australian he hoped the matter could be resolved before the public was affected. Mr Purvina said he was “mindful” the dispute was with Qantas and not the passengers and added that the public had been"disrupted enough already".

Qantas Engineering Executive Manager Scott McConnell told The Australian he was extremely disappointed the union had taken this step towards industrial action.
