With another record amount of COVID-19 cases identified, the New Zealand government has been granted extraordinary operating powers to implement a nationwide lockdown.
Ms Ardern said the pandemic required"a significant and coordinated response by and across central and local government" and for each citizen to minimise their contact with each other through self-isolation."Unlike so many other gravely inundated countries, we have a window of opportunity to stay home, break the chain of transmission, and save lives," Ms Ardern said.

Manufacturers find new life in face of a deadly pandemicDesperate moves are being made to revive Australia's moribund manufacturing sector in a bid to help shelter the community from the COVID-19 pandemic. Only one factory with 2 staff & 2 machines ? We have become to reliant on overseas manufacturing. There have been no masks or hand sanitizer for a month... the Gov needs to actually do something ! it should be a bitter lesson in letting our manufacturers to die off n to rely outsourcing on 1 country like China Generic drugs r being made either India n China now we have supply shortages No longer should we be in a position where we need to rely on overseas medical equipment/supplies & pharmaceuticals. Need to give priority to our own industry even if it means some tariff protection. Essential health supplies sufficient for Aust. needs must be always made here.
