As New York faces the worst measles outbreak in decades, legislators have moved to limit ways parents can opt out of vaccinations by revoking religious exemptions

"The fact is that we have a movement against vaccines and we have to confront it with correct information," said Democratic Senator Shelley Mayer.Dozens of legislators voted against the bill, arguing that banning religious exemptions risks violating the First Amendment, which protects religious freedom.

"One of the things that truly distinguishes and makes us great is the First Amendment. I think this is a step too far and too much an infringement on people's religious beliefs," said Republican Senator Andrew Lanza.‘It’s a first-world luxury’: from anti-vaxxers to tobacco, the fight for public health in a post-truth world

"Asking for an exemption does not mean you get it," he added, noting that authorities could still have denied exemption requests they deemed unjustified. New York city officials began requiring residents in heavily affected areas to be vaccinated starting in April, but the city still had 173 cases that month and 60 in May.

Schools were also allowed to turn away students who had not been inoculated, but this did not stop the outbreak from growing.

New technology shows the current drought is worse than thoughtResearch using data from a new water-tracking satellite mission gives the first large-scale perspective on the drought, showing that much of eastern Australia was drier last year than during the Millennium Drought. Yeah in other words its more bull shite. Farmers out this way been saying for 6 months it is worse than the millennium drought. I take a lot of photos of clouds, sunsets & sunrises so I noticed when for a year we had so little moisture in the atmosphere that I had far less good photo opportunities, but at least for us here it has turned around now & the sky is back to normal. Nature's cycles are huge.

Our yo-yo diet nation needs a new self-help regimeThe fad prescriptions of successive governments have failed us. To create a better version of ourselves, we need sustainable, slow-burn reforms. Jess_Irvine Faced with an ALP that, going into the 2001 election, wanted to shut the PC down, then Chairman Gary Banks did a lot to move the PC away from its IC / BIE roots and into 'social' areas (later reflected in its stated role). This sounds more IC / BIE to me.
