Justin Langer's old opening partner Matthew Hayden highlights the under-performance of Australia's cricketers in a stinging defence of his former colleague.

New cracks are emerging between Australian cricket coach Justin Langer and his players, despite the public backing this week from Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley.Matthew Hayden has passionately defended his former opening partnerYesterday The Australian newspaper reported senior players had met with Cricket Australia executives to discuss the situation around Langer, without their head coach.

"Umm, hello, what about meeting about the fact you're number three in Test cricket in the ICC rankings, number three in ODI rankings and number six in T-20 rankings." When the newspaper put the report of a dispute over the arrangement to Langer, he reportedly replied via text message: "You are absolutely correct in what you heard, and if I look back at that moment in time and with hindsight I should have reacted differently."Earlier this week, Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley gave Langer his public support for the upcoming summer and highlighted the responsibility that lay with the players.

I don’t know the ins and outs of all this. But while I don’t doubt Langer’s passion for the Aus cricket team & desire for its success, I have to say I am most often thoroughly underwhelmed when listening to him speak - never more so than in The Test doco addressing his players.
