Last week, French President Emmanuel Macron said he had spoken to Prime Minister Scott Morrison to offer French aid in dealing with bushfires. The team of French fire experts say they have a lot they can learn from Australian fireys.“Because of the scale of the fires, the loss of human life, the terrible devastation of wildlife, the material destruction of homes and farms,” he said.Colonel Ulliac believes firefighters around the world are like a family.
Colonel Pierre Schaller is also part of the French team and said even 45 years on the job had not prepared him for the scale of the Australian bushfire crisis. Sécurité Civile Fr “When we arrived last week we had the confirmation that we were going to see something completely unusual that none of us had known before even in our long operational experience,” he said.“[But] in Australia we have learnt to make a different count, with millions of hectares – it changes completely the philosophy and the operational practice that you have to implement in these situations," he said.
“We saw fires that did not walk, we saw fires that ran about 10kilometres per hour, we [have] never seen this.”The support doesn’t end with the firefighting experts: French communities are taking action in a short of solidarity. Teachers and students from the Jacques Brel College in Villers Bretonneux have written a letter of support to 36 fire stations in Australia – honouring the historical ties between the Somme and Australia since WW1.They’ll also be marching in solidarity with bushfire victims next month and have set up an online fundraising solidarity fund. The local school has set-up an online fundraising page to support Australians, the way Australians supported them more than 100 years ago.
183 people arrested for starting fires.

ItsBouquet rogerfederer spoke really well tonight about how seeing the fires from overseas and then actually coming to Australia and seeing the extent of the devastation were completely different. tennis RallyForRelief Onya Roger
No wonder because the fires were allowed to burn out of control due to lack of resources
Thank you France ♥️💙
It’s only going to get worst with the way the government has control of everything in this country bunch of good for nothing know it all sell outs
willamhariett Thank you Colonel Ulliac and your team for bringing your knowledge and experience to Australia.
I wonder if Colonel Ulliac has ever seen a Minister for Emergency Services promise to provide volunteer firefighters 'everything they possibly need'* but then fail to deliver on that promise? *Page 30, para. 1 at:
...a hazard reduction (see pic left) or controlled burning - an intentional burning - is best conducted during cooler months, to reduce fuel buildup and decrease the likelihood of serious fires during the bushfire season, rather than during such inferno & adding to the tragedy...
Backburning it makes sense. Don’t let the fuel build up. I guarrentee you that more native and other animals were killed in these fires than if the back burning had been taking place. The Greenies can go to hell! Fukem!
Hopefully we can take action to makesure it does not happen again next year. It would seem burning is a no go now, so it needs to be buldozers to clear the fire trails & fire breaks 100m & bigger. I am not convinced about water bombing planes because of the water shortage.
