Netball blindsides fans, coaches, players in 'super shot' move

Firstly to the two-point shot rule. It isn’t new thing. It has been debated for over a decade, and actually played in the Fast5 version of the game. There has been a sense that it was only a matter of time before it was tried in Super Netball, but any time fans and players – two of the game's most important stakeholders – have been asked about it, the answers show that the rule is as polarising at best and in some cases downright unpopular.

So for what it is worth, I like this attempt at evolution, and I will approach this season with an open mind. If it does what it is intended to do, which is to give a team that is trailing the opportunity to make a quick comeback, then it will have been worth it. If it has the added bonus of heralding a return to the long bomb, with long-range shooting specialists pulling the trigger from anywhere in the circle, then hoo-bloody-rah.

So now to the way the rule change has been announced and implemented. Put bluntly it was a bolt from the blue, and some coaches and players feel rightly miffed about it.
