The availability of 47 crisis accommodation beds in the CBD for homeless men, and 20 for women, are in doubt, under a State Government funding shake-up.

The availability of 47 crisis accommodation beds for homeless men, and 20 for women, are in doubt in Adelaide's CBD this winter, but the State Government maintains the sector was "keen for change".The St Vincent de Paul Society says it relies on state government funding for its CBD crisis accommodation

General manager Julie Duncan said the service's loss of $1.2 million in government funding would negatively impact its crisis and emergency accommodation program, which offered 20 beds, 24 hours a day, along with case management services and outreach support."We still need to make sure that we've got services for people who are actually homeless at this point in time and, in circumstances like domestic violence, we need to have a rapid response for women.

"And as far as some of the organisations that were part of the unsuccessful tender, they can actually speak to the new group and see what services they might be able to continue," she said.Blankets stored by the homeless in a city park ahead of nightfall.Helping to drive the reform is Ian Cox, a homelessness expert who worked at the Hutt Street Centre for 16 years, starting as a social worker student and ultimately finishing as its chief executive in 2019.

"That's a difficult situation as well, but at the end of the day, the sector, and many of the people I've been talking to, were keen for change," he said. "I've been led to believe, but we'll see what happens, that there may be some sub-contracting," Mr Cox said.Hutt Street Centre CEO Chris Burns said it stood to lose its case management service under the changes.

Mother arrested after her child nearly dies from severe head lice infestationA mother has been arrested after her four-year-old daughter suffered from such severe head lice infestation, she could barely walk. What a disgrace of a human being, let alone someone you could (or would) call a mother. She deserves the most harsh penalty. There should be no excuse or reasoning why she shouldn't.
