Just a week after deflecting questions, Nathan Buckley has declared he wants to talk to Tasmania and the AFL expansion club’s incoming chief executive Brendon Gale about the inaugural coaching role. The Devils are due to enter the league in 2028 and, with the Gale coup, are moving towards bolstering their operations. Just when they might want to sign up their first coach is unclear but history suggests it might be within the next 18 months.
He said “no” when asked if he is ruling out having interest. “I think it’s a very different proposition to the other 17 roles ,” Buckley said. “It’s something that I would like to have a look at and to learn more about, to understand whether or not there was a synergy there that was for the club’s benefit.
