Nat Dunworth was forced to send her triplets to two different childcare centres each week for 18 months.

As a parent of triplets, Nat Dunworth is used to challenges. But she wasn't prepared for how difficult it would be to find suitable childcare near her home in the Hunter Valley .

Caring for six children is hard enough in itself. But Nat and Sarah's life was made harder by the lack of convenient childcare options in their hometown of Cessnock, north-west of Newcastle. "It means I'm not getting confused on a Monday as to where I'm picking them up from … that did happen numerous times."

"COVID just made it worse and we've not yet, sadly, solved the problem about trying to achieve a … reliable and predictable level of supply of qualified educators and teachers." It's also hard to attract educators from overseas due to the high standards of the International English Language Testing System , he adds.Nat and her family are entitled to the federal government's Child Care Subsidy , but it's means-tested and limited.
