NASA administrator Jim Bridenstine has warned the world needs to prepare for a potentially deadly asteroid impact on Earth.

This week researchers will run an exercise at the 2019 Planetary Defence Conference that will play out a “realistic scenario” of an asteroid flying through space on an impact trajectory with Earth.

Along with the NASA unit, the European Space Agency’s Space Situational Awareness-NEO Segment and the International Asteroid Warning Network are tasked with hunting the skies for potentially dangerous space rocks. NASA has been tasked with the goal of identifying and tracking 90 per cent of near-Earth meteors that are larger than 140 metres by the year 2020. But the task could end up taking nearly three decades, experts claim. And even then we’re far from protected.

“The thing is the one over Chelyabinsk and this latest one are about 10 times smaller” that the ones targeted by the NASA mandate, astronomer Alan Duffy. “It’s far harder to detect those, and we still haven’t found all the larger asteroids yet.”

Great! Here comes the Asteroid Tax and the incessant political and media storm to be seen to be the 'first' in the world to solve it. 🤣

Climate change, asteroids and Islamic cancer! What future? Just enjoy whatever time we have left people!

Bring on the asteroid! Nature's population control 😂

What is it with these people ! not satisfied with phony climate science they want everyone expecting to be blown to bits in 2027. 😟

Struggling with Game of Thrones' darkest scenes? It's not just your TVThe night is dark and full of terrors, not that you can see much thanks to the disappointing picture quality in Game of Thrones' dimmest scenes. “Cinematic” tv makers such as HBO and Netflix also screen their eps for colour grade and sound mix in theatres, which is not where they’ll be watched. This may be why the dialogue is often hard to hear through the music and fx on Netflix shows. Does that mean those dreadful torrent downloaders clogging the internet with 4Gb per episode 1080p files with 5.1 channel surround sound for their chunky home theater systems are actually getting the best experience? Shame on them!
