The changes will allow commuters across the state, including regional V/Line users to use their card or smart device to touch on and off.

"With the Victorian Government's announcement of planned improvements to the myki system, Victorians, international and interstate visitors alike, will enjoy the simple, frictionless experience that contactless payments provide public transport users," Commonwealth Bank executive Andrew Hinchliff said.

"We are excited to work with the Department of Transport and Planning to bring contactless payments to the state. "Public transport is an integral part of daily life for many Victorians, so we are proud to play a part in improving the commuter experience."that US company Conduent Business Services had been awarded the state's public transport ticketing contract, under a new 15-year agreement.

Conduent will take over from myki's existing operator from December, with trials for the system to begin next year. The broader rollout is planned for 2025, in the meantime - myki cardholders will continue to be able to use their physical card.
