My son is adopted, and yes, I am his real mother'

My son has been told something about me far too many times in his life - something that's been said to adopted children for as long as I can remember: that I'm not his"real" mum.

Adoptive parents are that child's real parents, no matter which way you look at it. We're the ones kissing away pains from bumps and bruises, cheering them on at sporting events, scheduling doctor appointments, changing nappies, cleaning up vomit, and showering them with more hugs and kisses than they care to get. Those are things"real" parents do, and those children are 100 percent ours. My son is 100 percent mine.

And since kids usually repeat things they hear or are told, every parent in general needs to help educate their little ones that just because a child doesn't come from his mother's belly doesn't make them any less her child. Families are formed in all sorts of ways, and no way is better or more valid than the other.

Congratulations on your family. I am adopted. I feel blessed to have been adopted. Mum & Dad are my parents and then there is my birth mother, absolutely not my Mum. I lost my parents quite young but am eternally grateful that they were my family.

Wonderful to see real mother love for adopted child. We need more parents like her in our society.

It’s a fact that an adopted mother is not a real mother. Why all these articles try to turn reality upside down just because someone’s feelings are hurt.

From October '100 per cent renewables' won't just be talk for CanberraCanberra will be effectively powered by renewable energy from October 1, according to the ACT's Climate Change Minister. Get ready for sky-rocketing electricity prices Canberra. If Labour win we won't get 100% renewables. A fortune will be spent. Once the realisation that it is not practical to store large quantities of electricity dawns on them a few coal fired stations will be restarted. The whole thing will be a pointless exercise in stupidity really. Why is the independent unbias taxpayer funded ABC campaigning for Labour?
