A fire near Robinvale, 90 kilometres south-east of Mildura, has officially been declared under control, as SES volunteers continue clean-up after wild winds hit Melbourne.

A grass fire in Victoria's far north-west near the Murray River has been brought under control after forcing the evacuation of campers and burning more than 17 hectares on Sunday.

However, it was officially declared under control by Forest Fire Management at about 9.40am on Monday. Police said a 63-year-old Robinvale man is likely to be charged after a campfire spread to nearby vegetation just before midday on Sunday and destroyed a small shed. He was released pending summons. Victoria State Emergency Service Deputy Chief Officer Alistair Drayton said there were still a "handful of jobs" volunteers were assisting with on Monday morning.

'Disappointing' the Murray River region was not included in aviation stimulus | Sky News AustraliaAlbury Mayor Kevin Mack says it is 'disappointing' the Murray River region was excluded from the government’s $1.2 billion aviation stimulus package. \n\nOn Thursday, Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced 800,000 half-priced airline tickets would be made available to fly to about 13 regions across the country.\n\n“They’ve badged it as a stimulus because of a lack of international tourists and the locations they’ve selected are a little bit confusing,' Mr Mack said.\n\nMr Mack told Sky News the government is “cobbling it together as they go” since the original press release did not make it clear the locations were selected because they have the highest reliance on JobKeeper. \n\n“I think it’s important we advocate equally for every regional location, everyone can’t be included, I get that 100 per cent,” he said.\n\n“But the reality is the initial release talked about international tourists, there was no guidelines, no criteria, but as the hours go on, we keep getting bits and pieces out of government.\n\n“The Murray River region has been shut up for 140 days during lockdown and certainly our tourism has taken a battering.\n\n'The deputy prime minster may say they drive to our location but a lot of them were locked down and we couldn’t cross the border.' \n To be fair though, who is going to fly down to the Murray River region for a holiday? Not a marginal seat? Voters, make it one! By Murray river region are they including Mildura?

Darling River ecology 'extinct' and Murray cod 'in real trouble', warns expertThe Darling River is so degraded it can longer support healthy stocks of iconic fish species, including the Murray cod, says one of Australia's most respected fish scientists. Water extraction needs to be addressed Solid exaggeration here, some rivers have more cod than ever thanks to fingerling releases. The yellowbelly didn’t die off in the Darling during the drought, Australia native species know how to survive a drought.
