Multiple fires 'deliberately lit' across inner Sydney suburb | jennynoise

Police are appealing for public assistance after a string of "deliberately lit" fires broke out in the inner Sydney suburb of Glebe over a two hour period on Monday night.

Firefighters received the first call, at 11.23pm, to a shop front on Norton Street where a "minor" fire caused damage to the shop's exterior. A spokesman for Fire and Rescue NSW said an elderly resident was evacuated and taken to hospital with smoke inhalation, but had since returned home. Neighbouring residents were also evacuated as a precaution.Nine News

Crews were still at the scene of that fire when they were called at 1.19am to a home in Westmoreland Street, where a car in a backyard was "well alight".

'That time is now': Report calls for Sydney CBD congestion chargeAmid record investments in public transport, a new report says the time is right for Australian cities to introduce congestion charges in CBDs. Jess_Irvine This would put thousands of suburban commuters between a rock and a hard place. Many would like to take public transport to work in the cbd,but they can’t because it either doesn’t exist in their area, or is too unreliable to get them to work on time.Give them an alternative first Jess_Irvine How about stopping migration? Both governments have destroyed this country already with too many people and appalling infrastructure to deal with it. Jess_Irvine They can start by lowering tolls so more vehicles use the transport tubes we have already provided. The blatant transfer of public toll revenues to private pockets allows private owners to automatically crank up tolls when their funding costs are at historic lows. auspol
