Daly Cherry-Evans has a gentleman’s agreement with Manly to play on beyond 2025, which would give the Sea Eagles skipper a chance to become just the second player in NRL history to reach 400 games.
One of the most durable players in the competition signed a two-year extension with Manly this week, which keeps him on the northern beaches until 2025. He will be 36 by the time his new deal expires. Having already run out 266 times for the Sea Eagles, Cherry-Evans would need to play for two seasons after his existing deal expires – in 2026 and 2027 – when he would be 38 to reach 400 matches, but he is not prepared to rule out a shot at the milestone. Smith retired at the age of 37 on 430 games.
“The best part about the conversations I had with the club about my contract was, we were both happy with each other and to leave it open-ended,” he said. “That was the most important thing for me.”
