If she didn’t changed her name out of spite she wouldn’t be in this situation. My ex kept my name until she remarried, her sister still uses her married name to this day some 15 years after leaving her husband, my Aunt kept he married name until she remarried too.

My child has her Dad’s name even after we divorced & she’s perfectly fine. It’s all about letting them know it’s ok. If you’re traumatised about it & make a big deal of course they will be upset too. My girl knows she is part of both families and the name doesn’t change that.
