Opinion: Morrison ignites superannuation culture war in final stretch | CroweDM

Scott Morrison has gained the political fight he wanted by promising a housing policy that the superannuation industry, the union movement and Labor cannot abide.

Morrison knows how to run hard on a dramatic policy idea in the final stretch of an election contest because he did this with the First Home Loan Deposit Scheme during the 2019 campaign, promising a government guarantee over 15 per cent of a mortgage. Will it work? The benefits of the policy depend entirely on assumptions about property values, super fund balances and compound rates of return. Australians are certainly better off if they can own their own home in their retirement. The uncertainty in the policy is the cost of achieving that goal by shrinking their super fund nest eggs. The advantage for Morrison is that he is promising younger voters the freedom to choose what they want to do with their savings.

CroweDM This shows the kind of psycho we are dealing with. No empathy, don’t give a damn attitude. Exactly how many young Aussie in the 20-35 age group can withdraw $50000 from his/her super? Does he know? I would say less than 1%. What a conman this guy. Get rid of him

CroweDM Whether its Morrison V1 or V2 or V3 he is always, always always igniting a 'war' on something....

CroweDM Respected Economist Saul Eslake described the Coalition’s announcement as the title of WORST housing policy in the last 25 years.”

CroweDM Bit superficial CroweDM - what are the consequences of the proposal to erode the concept of quarantined retirement wealth for what could be short-term disaster - young in insecure work facing mortgage default with falling value and increasing interest rates?

CroweDM So ignited..

CroweDM who is writing his script.........strange stuff

CroweDM This is like the 3 little pigs. Some people out there sacrificed holidays, fun, working hard and working difficult jobs to save for a house while others didn't. Now, you just hand those slackers a way to home ownership which basically spits in the face of those who sacrificed
