The Morrison government “missed the opportunity” to implement key changes to improve women’s economic security and safety, according to ACTU President Michele O’Neil.

5min

Tuesday night’s budget included $3.4 billion to tackle women’s economic security by focussing on areas such as childcare which aims to improve the workforce participation rate. Ms O’Neil described the government’s measures, such as the $1.1 billion to address women’s safety, as “piecemeal and delayed”. “Some of the key things that will make a difference for women’s economic security and safety require structural change, and the government missed the opportunity to do that,” she said.
