Bushfires may affect Australia's AAA credit rating | Sky News AustraliaCredit rating agency Moody’s fears Australia’s credit rating could be affected if bushfire seasons become more severe.\n\nIn a statement Moody’s said: “Taking into account both the direct costs and indirect loss of revenue, we estimate that the cost of the bushfires will reduce Australia’s general government’s fiscal balance overall by around 0.1 per cent of GDP per year in the next two fiscal years”.\n\n“More frequent and severe natural disasters are likely to result in rising and recurring costs, testing the capacity of state and federal governments to pay the debts”.\n\nMoody’s still maintains its AAA credit rating for Australia, New South Wales and Victoria but could revise its assessment if natural disasters do become more severe.\n\nRival agency Standard & Poor’s however is more optimistic, saying affected states will be able to service the bushfire recovery costs and their credit ratings would not be affected.\n \nImage: Getty\n Typical bloody banker Ohh the irony. PM Morrison has delivered a 'Herculean effort' on bushfire relief and recovery | Sky News AustraliaSky News host Chris Smith says Prime Minister Scott Morrison has “thrown the kitchen sink at relief and recovery,” in the face of the devastating bushfire crisis gripping the nation. \n\nMr Smith said the prime minister has produced a “Herculean effort” to address bushfires in the nation since he returned from a widely criticised family holiday to Hawaii in December.\n\nDespite Mr Morrison facing a “political pile-on”, Mr Smith said climate protesters should be targeting their demands at the United States, China and India, as opposed to Australia.\n\n“According to climate scientists,” Mr Smith said, those are the countries that “can change the rate of warming”. \n\nThe Morrison government is now “acting on, and changing policy to appease the loudest voices, voices who stupidly think that we can change the weather from Australia,” Mr Smith said. \n\nImage: Getty\n ScottMorrisonMP Chris Smith: class act.
