The second wave of Australians that were stranded in Wuhan - the epicentre of the coronavirus - is due to arrive on Christmas Island this morning. 9News

The 35 citizens and permanent residents left the Chinese city last night on an Air New Zealand flight evacuating 98 New Zealanders and a number of others to Auckland.Among them is Daniel Ou Yang, from Sydney, who told 9News he was looking forward to arriving in Australia.

"I've definitely had my concerns and my thoughts holding me back from being on this flight, but in the end, I just said you know, what I have to do it. I have to get on this flight, I have to get home to my life."

After briefly stopping in Brisbane for a crew change, they will join the 241 evacuees already undergoing a two-week quarantine process on the Indian Ocean island. They will be met and screened by medical experts before being bussed to the detention centre in a convoy to begin their quarantine period in a joint operation by the Australian Federal Police, border force officials and ADF.
