Three hostages abducted in October have been released amid an incident that has highlighted the Caribbean nation's dire kidnapping problem.

Three hostages kidnapped in Haiti in October have been released, US State Department spokesman Ned Price has said, adding that the United States is continuing to work to secure the release of the remaining 12 hostages.Haiti's 400 Mawozo gang kidnapped 17 people including children in OctoberAfter visiting an orphanage back in October, 16 Americans and one Canadian, including five children, were abducted.which has worsened in recent months amid economic troubles and political upheaval.

A statement from Christian Aid Ministries said three people were released on Sunday in Haiti and are "safe and seem to be in good spirits". "We are thankful to God that three more hostages were released last night," said the statement from Christian Aid Ministries, a missionary organisation based in the US state of Ohio.

"As with the previous release, we are not able to provide the names of the people released, the circumstances of the release, or any other details."
