A slight to medium chance of showers and thunderstorms in a broad band east of the trough, increasing to a medium to high chance in the far north and southeast inland.Cooler conditions across western districts under increasing cloud cover. Highs of 34C in Gympie, down to 32C for Mackay and 31C in Brisbane.

Light to moderate northeast to northwesterly winds, tending moderate southeasterly in the southwest and southern interior near the NSW border. Winds over the southwest shifting fresh southwesterly in the afternoon.There is a severe weather warning in place for heavy rainfall in the North West Slopes and Plains and parts of Mid North Coast, Hunter, Central Tablelands, Central West Slopes and Plains, Upper Western and Northern Tablelands Forecast Districts.

Heavy rain which may lead to flash flooding is expected to develop across the Northwest Slopes and Plains and parts of the Central West Slopes and Plains and Upper Western forecast districts this morning. Rainfall will increase and spread east, reaching the Hunter and parts of the Northern Tablelands and Mid North Coast, during the afternoon and evening.Top temperatures of just 20C in Broken Hill, 22C in Woolongong and tops of 24C for Sydney and Newcastle.A southwesterly change entering the southwest late in the day.Scattered showers extending from the west during the day, then tending to rain about the west from the afternoon, with locally heavy falls about the west in the evening.
